The United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi was established June 18, 1838. 

It serves 45 counties located throughout the state.

In the District, the U.S. Probation Office works closely with 10 district court judges and 5 magistrate judges in the administration of justice at federal courthouses in Jackson, Gulfport, and Hattiesburg, in addition to federal facilities at Natchez and Meridian.

The probation office is headquartered at the federal courthouse in Jackson and has branch offices at the federal courthouses in Gulfport and Hattiesburg.
